But there is popular belief that it is Bangalore and not Chennai because of a decision taken by the then Tamil Nadu government regarding the allotment of land to a MNC X. The late Murasoli Maran once said that "if MGR had been more accomodating to X then Chennai and not Bangalore would have been the silicon valley of India".
