Woman in the Moon (or in original German, Frau im Mond) is a science fiction silent film that premiered October 15, 1929. It is often considered to be one of the first "serious" science fiction films.
The basics of rocket travel are presented to a mass audience for the first time by this film, including the use of a multi-stage rocket. The idea that the moon rocket Friede  would be submerged in water before launch was a bad guess, although large rockets are launched over water to prevent damage to the spacecraft from the sound generated by liftoff. NASA did, however, have proposals for water-launched rockets (the Sea Dragon and Nova). Also, the first thing the space travelers do upon reaching the moon is use a dowsing rod  to search for water.

However what is the movie's biggest contribution to the world of rocket science?

    Where is the party?

    27.8.10
The party plan is largely regarded as primarily the invention of Brownie Wise, who developed it for the X company in the early 1950s. The success of X was widely emulated. In this system, full-time commissioned representatives of the sales organization, almost invariably women, approach other women about hosting a social event in their homes during which a product will be demonstrated. In consideration, they will be given hostess gifts and a portion of the proceeds from the amount of goods sold. Frequently all in attendance will be given a token item of nominal value as an incentive to attend, although the primary reason to attend is for the fun of the social environment. The value of fun as a commodity coupled with personal customer service is what makes this business model so successful.

But recently this kind of marketing reappeared in the news when Y used it promote its newly lauched product Z in 2009.

    Id X, Y and Z.

It is a technical analysis pattern which is performed to predict stock market crashes. Named after a fiery tragedy which occurred in the year 1937, the phenomenon is said to have originated from Jim Miekka, a blind mathematician and the name was given by Kennedy Gammage. The creator of the term (Miekka) declared that the phenomenon officially triggered off on August 12, 2010. Thfe probability is created by monitoring the number of securities that form new 52-week highs relative to the number of securities that form new 52-week lows.

Identify this analysis the results of which predicted a stock market crash in this week and has left investors scared shitless.

X and Y were two Swiss  skaters who came to the U.S. in 1937 and joined the original Ice Follies show as comedy ice skaters. "X" was Werner Groebli (April 21, 1915 - April 14, 2008), born in Basel. "Y" was Hansruedi (Hans Rudolf) Mauch, (May 4, 1919 - June 4, 1979), also born in Basel. X and Y were known for skating in Alpine Lederhosen  and performing eccentric tricks on ice, including the "cantilever spread-eagle", created by Groebli, and Mauch's "rubber legs", twisting and bending his legs while skating in a spread eagle position. Only a few skaters have successfully performed the duo's routines since.

X took his name from a small village in Switzerland; Y is a Swiss-German word for a frock coat, which my father used to wear in the early days of their skating act. They put the words together as a typical Swiss joke.

X and Y found fame with the Follies, a revue promoted by Eddie Shipstad and his brother Roy, which began in 1936 and ran for almost 50 years. They also reached a worldwide audience when they began appearing in films, including the Monogram Pictures production "Lady, Let's Dance" in 1944. Their association lasted so long, and they were at one time so well known, that their names became a household term in many languages.

    "X and Y" has become an English slang term used to refer two people so closely associated as to be indistinguishable;

    Give "X and Y".

    Bloody Cousins...

    23.8.10
The name X is derived from the nick given to new boys at Repton School where Jeremy Clarkson attended with Andy Wilman. Some say X is a CIA experiment gone wrong, and that X's blood smells of Root Beer. There are two types of X mainly: black and white. Recently the identity of the white X was revealed as Ben Collins. A proposed name for X was originally "The Gimp" until protests from black X, played by Perry McCarthy put a stop to the idea. X Power Laps and trains celebrities.

X has many cousins, viz., the Lorry driving cousin, The African Cousin, The German Cousin and so on. X is a fixture on the TV series Y.

The "West Side Story" is an adaptation of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, is referenced in this Grammy winning song, featuring proteges of Wyclef Jean, The Product G&B , which is about a girl named X falling in love with the artist,Y. X happens to be the name of the lead character in "West Side Story". The artist set up a chain of restaurants with the name of the song. Y repaid his debt to Product G&B,when he played on the track "Dirty Dancin" from their first album, Ghetto And Blues, which unfortunately was not released by Y's label. Identify the song and the artist.

X :"I doubt very much if I would be the first one who ever did that. That's like saying I invented the wheel, I'm sure someone did that at some other point. I think you'd have to say that I made it fashionable. I used it so much and all the time and it had become my trademark until the Britney Spears audience decided to do it as well. So it kind of lost its meaning with that. But it was...I was in Y at the time. It was symbol that I thought was reflective of what that band was supposed to be all about. It's NOT the devil's sign like we're here with the devil. It's an Italian thing I got from my Grandmother called the "Malocchio". It's to ward off the Evil Eye or to give the Evil Eye, depending on which way you do it. It's just a symbol but it had magical incantations and attitudes to it and I felt it worked very well with Y. So I became very noted for it and then everybody else started to pick up on it and away it went. But I would never say I take credit for being the first to do it. I say because I did it so much that it became the symbol of rock and roll of some kind."

"We design the keynotes so that the big reveal of the product happens around 40 minutes into the presentation…When the big image of the product appears on screen, we want the time shown to be close to the actual time on the audience’s watches. But we know we won’t hit 40 minutes exactly. And for X, we made it 42 minutes. It turned out we were pretty accurate with that estimate, so for Y, we made it 41 minutes. And there you are - the secret of the magic time."

    Poda....?

The term originated from a group of teenagers at San Rafael High School in San Rafael, California, United States in 1971.The teens would meet after school at a certain time to smoke marijuana at the Louis Pasteur statue.

According to an April 2009 article on the The Huffington Post, the group called itself the Waldos because its members hung out by a wall after school. Writer Ryan Grim, citing interviews with anonymous Waldos, claims that the group met by the statue at X to begin a search for a crop of unguarded cannabis growing near Point Reyes that they had heard about. They never found the stash, Grim writes, but smoked plenty of marijuana while looking for it.

X, however is known by a totally different context/reason in India.

    X?

    Screw You !

    16.8.10
X is a work that relies heavily on symbolism. The ending of Usual Suspects,, Memento, Fight Club and Being John Malkovich are examples of this kind of works. Urban Dictionary defines X as an idea or concept that shakes one's previously held beliefs or assumptions about the nature of reality.

Operation X is an important practice in the Discordian religion. It is most often manifested as a decentralized campaign of civil disobediences, activism, art movements, especially performing arts and anything else that is believed to bring about social change, forcing the victim to question the parameters of one's reality.

In an episode of The Nostalgia Critic, Douglas Walker coined this term when reviewing Tom and Jerry : The Movie. He said:

"A cat and a mouse are driving a boat, trying to rescue the daughter of Indiana Jones from a Giant Purple People Eater, a dog on a skateboard, a performing ship captain, his hand puppet Squawk, two Mexican wresters, and a doctor riding an ice cream cart! Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the X."

Village Roadshow commenced operations in 1954, when founder Roc Kirby began running one of Australia's first drive-in cinemas in the Melbourne  suburb of Croydon. The drive-in was adjacent to a shopping strip called "Croydon Village"; hence the company adopted the "Village" name. The company later expanded into traditional cinemas in major areas, though it still operates the Coburg Drive-In in Coburg. Its majority is owned by Village Roadshow Corporation, run by John and Robert Kirby and Graham Burke.
